TIRANA, Oct  24 /ATA/ Over 8,000 tons of strawberries are grown only in Kafaraj of Fier, where the majority of production goes for export.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared Monday on social media the images of the greenhouses built by hard-working farmers in Kafaraj of Fier, cultivating the largest amount of strawberries,  which he described as impressive.

Currently, there are 160 hectares of strawberry cultivated land in Kafaraj, while 8 years ago there was not a single hectare cultivated with this crop.

Thanks to the government support schemes for agriculture, farmers have increased the area planted with crops for export.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Rama held a meeting with farmers in Kafaraj which focused on the measures taken by the government, especially in support of agriculture, a sector with a significant contribution to the country’s economy. /m.m/sm/
