TIRANA, July 29 /ATA/ – Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha announced Tuesday that his main opposition party will appeal to Albania’s Constitutional Court over the issue of diaspora vote and, if necessary, it will send to the case to the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights.

Speaking at DP headquarters, Berisha once again denounced the May 11 parliamentary elections as a “farce,” claiming the process undermined the value of the Albanian vote.

“The May 11 electoral farce was a decisive step toward the full devaluation of the citizens’ vote,” Berisha stated.

He claimed that DP possesses records showing government promises of jobs in exchange for votes during the election campaign.

“The problem is that when a job is promised to someone, they give their vote in return. By registering the need and making a promise, that’s how they secure the vote,” Berisha alleged.

On the issue of diaspora vote, Berisha stressed that legal avenues will be pursued.

“The Constitutional Court is under control, but in respect of judicial hierarchy and in view of the international court to which we will appeal on constitutional grounds, we will go through every stage,” he said.
