Today, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, shared on social media the feedback from patients benefiting from stoma treatment support.

“Echoing the voices of patients who now receive support that makes their daily lives easier. For the first time, stoma treatment has been included in the reimbursement scheme—providing significant relief to over 800 citizens who grapple with health challenges on a daily basis,” Koçiu highlighted.

Koçiu noted that “with an allocation of 100 million lek for 2025, this decision addresses a critical need and ensures that services trickle down to the areas they are needed the most.”

“Up until now, we had been purchasing the stoma supplies on our own. Then the doctor called and told me that the Ministry of Health had made it possible for individuals with this diagnosis to receive them free of charge. I went to the health centre to start the process so my husband could access the supplies at no cost,” said the patient’s wife.

A citizen stated, “Until yesterday, we had been buying them ourselves—now we’ve received the news that the state will reimburse us.”

“I used to buy them out of pocket, but now—thanks to the Ministry of Health—they are covered through reimbursement,” a citizen remarked.
