TIRANA, Jan 31 /ATA/ The State Matura is highly anticipated by students and parents, as it constitutes a pivotal milestone in the educational trajectory, blending academic preparation with the sentiments of completing one stage and transitioning to new university challenges.

In response, educational authorities commence preparations well in advance to ensure a fair and transparent examination process. This year, the State Matura regulations also introduce modifications compared to those of the preceding year.

These changes primarily address matters concerning repeat students and the disciplinary measures applicable during the examinations.

Mirela Cami, Director General of the Pre-University Education Directorate, walked ATA through the provisions laid down in this regulation.

“Students who fail in one or two subjects during the school year will not be allowed to sit for the June examinations. These students will be required to take the exams during the autumn session and will subsequently participate in the State Matura in the second session. In cases where students fail three subjects, they will lose the academic year and will be required to repeat it,” Cami emphasized.

According to her, the regional directorates, the Educational Services Center, and all educational institutions will be notified at the end of the school year with the nominal list of these students.

Another important change pertains to the use of technological devices during the examinations.

“A graduating student who presents themselves at the examination center and is found during the exam in possession of or using a mobile phone, smartwatch, or other technological devices shall be disqualified from that examination; however, they shall retain the right to sit for it in the subsequent session,” Cami clarified.

With regard to the administrators, Cami highlighted that they will not only have defined duties but will also bear full responsibility for the proper administration of the examination process.

“Examination administrators are trained and appointed via an electronic draw in the presence of the Director of the Pre-University Education Directorate. Their responsibilities in managing the examination process are clearly delineated, including the identification of graduating students, prevention of seat changes during the exam, physical inspection for technological devices, reporting of irregularities, and strict adherence to schedules and other regulations in accordance with the 2026 State Matura guidelines, which impose upon them accountability for ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the process,” Cami emphasized.

The Matura examinations will consist of 30–35 questions, including multiple-choice and open-ended questions. To guide and prepare students, model tests for the upcoming exams have been distributed to all schools, familiarizing students with the format and requirements of the examinations to ensure they are as well-prepared as possible.

To achieve the maximum grade of 10, a student must attain all 60 available points.
