TIRANA, Aug 24 /ATA/ – Saint Kozma’s Monastery, a rare cultural heritage site in the village of Kolkonda, southern Albanian district of Fier, is being visited by a large number of local faithful to celebrate the Saint’s day on Thursday.

Prime Minister Edi Rama took to the social media to share images of the monastery built by Ali Pashë Tepelena in 1814, along an invitation to tourists and visitors to experience every cultural and tourist destination throughout Albania.

Christian faithful celebrate the Saint Kozma day, one of the most venerated saints. There are many churches and monasteries dedicated to him throughout the country, with the most important one being the Monastery of Saint Kozma, built with contribution of Ali Pashë Tepelena in 1814.

The monastery is a pilgrimage site for local residents in Fier and other surrounding areas, as well as several Orthodox believers from the neighbouring Greece.

The monastery complex consists of the church, the monastery building that enclose the northern and eastern side of the courtyard, the church of Saint Mary (1782) and a chapel between the two churches, where is the cenotaph of Saint Kozma.

After the restoration works on the church, restoration and reconstruction of the buildings of great value for the typology of this genus, carried out by the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, the monastery regained its true values and has turned into a pilgrimage center with dense religious and cultural activity.
