TIRANA, Dec 11 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated the need for strong support for the Special Parliamentary Anticorruption Commission as part of Albania’s efforts to build a stronger state and combat corruption, with the goal of securing Albania’s membership in the European Union by 2030.

Speaking at a high-level meeting, the government head said that Special Commission on advancing good governance reforms, the rule of law and anticorruption for 2030 Albania, should actually transform into a permanent mechanism to coordinate the integration process until the country joins the EU.

He said that the institutions included in the Commission should perform and live up to the ambition for Albania to become full EU member by 2030.

“It is an incredible volume of homework we should deliver and the EU doesn’t give away anything when it comes to the standards and the criteria a country should fulfill and no geopolitical situation, no war or crisis would convince the EU to turn a blind eye to fulfilling those criteria. Ukraine too, despite all the colossal support, should deliver on all the stages and meet all the standards and the criteria before it can become a EU member,” he said.

The government head described the EU accession process as “a blessing to build Europe here.”
