Dumani said on Thursday’s hearing at the High Prosecutorial Council, that, “with regard to interceptions, they were used in 109 proceedings for corruption and 77 proceedings for organized crime. In total, there is a 91% increase in the use of interceptions.

“10 new joint investigation teams were established during 2023 alone. Meanwhile, investigations are still ongoing with 25 joint investigative teams set up in previous periods. For this year, there is a 95% increase in requests for legal assistance abroad. Joint investigation teams for 2023 have been set up mainly with the Italian state but also with other states such as France or with the Nordic countries as well as with states of the region such as North Macedonia or Kosovo”, said Dumani.

Dumani said that the proactive approach has delivered positive results in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
He went on saying that “in 2023, a total of 299 new proceedings were registered, of which 201 proceedings for criminal offenses of corruption with 219 persons and 85 proceedings were registered for criminal offenses of organized crime with 160 persons and 13 proceedings for criminal offenses with terrorist purposes.”

Dumani said that, ” 8 criminal proceedings were initiated for the first time in 2023 with 18 people under investigation, respectively former Minister of Health, former Deputy Minister of Health, former judge of Appeal, former mayor, former finance minister, former prime minister, former environment minister, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, candidate for mayor, former prosecutor, etc.”.

“There is also a 20% increase in cases registered for criminal offenses of corruption and other criminal offenses compared to the previous year,” he said.
