TIRANA, Feb 10 /ATA/ The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, said on Thursday after testifying before the Belgian prosecutor in SPAK in the Toyota Yaris case, that the DP stands firm on the fight against corruption and organized crime.

“I am glad to testify in the presence of Belgian justice representatives. The case in Belgium, as I told you, as I told all the Albanians has not been closed, as has happened with the issue here. The confiscated money was not returned to them. The investigation in Belgium continues and the Belgian justice is determined to conduct a thorough investigation,” said Basha.

“In this context, for the second time and whenever necessary, as I have always shown, I will cooperate with the Belgian justice, with the justice of each partner country in the fight against corruption, organized crime and in particular the links of organized crime with politics that is ruining Albania day to day and the well-being of Albanians. I do this with the self-awareness that first and foremost this is a mission, for DP this is a process that is done but there are many,” said Basha.

“Organized crime is an omnipresent phenomenon, but the extent of its cooperation with politics in Albania is like no other and is the main reason why Albanians are poorer from year to year, more hopeless and more helpless than any other people in the Balkans, not to mention Europe,” stressed Basha.

“So I want to assure all Albanians through you, through the Albanian media, I and DP are not only available for the Belgian justice in this case but for justice in general and we will continue to be proactive in the fight against organized crime, against the links of politics with crime, corruption, whether the suspects, the defendants, the corrupt, the designated and designated to be like it or not. The situation in Albania is this, that unfortunately, even through misinformation, Albanians have been told that the case is closed, that money has been divided between politicians accused of collaborating with organized crime and the accuser, the DP. The truth is otherwise: The money has been confiscated, the process continues in Belgium. It has our full support. The third thing I want to say is that the honest employees of SPAK and NBI have and will have the full support of the DP to move ahead with the investigation of cases under their jurisdiction. That is why they are paid by Albanian taxpayers. They are nobody’s subordinates except the Albanian law and the Albanian taxpayers,” said Basha. /j.p/sm/
