Presenting the Socialist candidates for the region of Shkoder, the government head underlined that “equality before the law remains the Achilles’ heel for the Albanian state.”

PM Rama emphasized that influential people and high-level officials are now facing justice.

“For the first time ever, we are seeing influential individuals with strong links with political power being summoned and held accountable before a justice system, no longer controlled by political power,” PM Rama said.

However, the government head warned that justice reform could collapse without his Socialist Party in office and if Albania’s EU accession negotiations fall apart.

“One day, this may end and could be reversed. We guarantee that justice system will remain independent,” PM Rama stated, underlining that “it is first time that high-profile politicians are being convicted.”

Rama reiterated that his Socialist Party is the architect of justice reform, which has transformed the country’s legal system, saying the opposition attempts to reverse it will fail.

In his remarks, the Socialist leader noted that it is important for all the candidates for the Socialist Party’s local leadership to present their platforms and make best and most serious preparations for an open election race within the ruling party.

“All the SP structures in every municipality and administrative unit in every party branch should forward as many proposals as possible so that a broader election opportunity is offered. I am really impressed in terms of what I have witnessed and I am here today to follow this process along with Socialist MPs representing Elbasan constituency and I am very pleased to see that everyone is granted the opportunity to partake in a process designed to give a fresh impetus to SP throughout the territory of the country,” Rama said.

Socialist leader also said that the process is designed to renew and build a new mechanism and the party’s structure as a whole.

PM Rama also said that the election process will also promote gender equality  within the party ranks.
