TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/ The second panel of the Socialist Party candidates for April 25 elections in Tirana, presented by Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, included Najada Çomo, Alket Pëllumbi, Fidel Ylli, Plarent Ndreca, Romina Kuko and Halit Valteri.

Veliaj has made an overview of the challenges that each one of them had to cope with down their professional path, in their political family, as well as details about their private or family life still unknown to the public.

Najada Çomo, who ranks second on the Socialist Party list, recounted moments that all of us could have imagined but no one has experienced like those working in Covid hospitals.

“It is very painful for those who are inside, for those outside it is perceived as painful, because when you do not see it at all, of course you think not only of their suffering, but also of the way those people are treated, but sincerely as long as dedicated healthcare professional work there, in addition to medical care, they have offered human affection to those people,” said Çomo, adding that this has not been lacking even when the staff lost their loved ones to this disease.

For Plarent Ndreca, who has served for a long time in the public administration, the biggest challenge was the reform of higher education.

“The most difficult and challenging moment of my professional life was the closure of private universities, a 6 month process to vet the institutions which had not only breached the law, but had also abused. I remember the fact that it was the same administration that we found, that kick-started this process – that’s very important to say and understand what the spirit and willingness to do things mean – let us remember the fact that one of those universities had a turnover of 5 million euros per annum, had many connections so we came under enormous pressure along the way, but with the support of the Prime Minister, the minister and thanks to an awesome team we made it to set another standard at this point, ” said Ndreca.

Romina Kuko has touched on the new challenges as chair of the City Council entwined with the interests of citizens.

“What you see when you have to work in the long-term is the responsibility of doing the right thing in a unified way. The fact that you think about the citizens, you put the public interest above anything else is further proof that the municipalities are no longer perceived as institutions that pay the salaries, the municipalities are oriented towards improvement of services, towards the community, towards what they can offer to the citizens to improve their life,” said Kuko.

One of the oldest Members of the Albanian Parliament, Arben Pëllumbi, recounted his journey in the Socialist Party.

“It came as an alternative to a new spirit that had been born. Of course, it was not easy! It represented both the unrelenting drive to do something different and idealism, so the SP was built around these two principles in all these years.”

Fidel Ylli, the MP who has dedicated almost his entire political life to sports, said that he is proud that finally a government has made tangible investments in sports.

“In the past all governments used to mobilize in the run up to international football matches such as those against England, France, or any other European team, when they needed a ticket to the stadium. I think that for the first time, what our government run by Edi Rama has done for sports has not been done in 100 years of Albanian state combined. It is based on evidence and facts. Investments in sports include the stadium of Elbasan, the stadium of Shkodra, the National Arena, the Olympic Center in Tirana, the Olympic Center of Korça, over 100 gyms all over Albania, almost 31 million euros invested in these 8 years, while DP in 8 years of its government has invested 80 thousand dollars in sports, ” said Ylli.

While Halit Valteri, the MP who has recently joined the Socialist Party and is already running in Kamza, said that Tirana leads by example.

“It’s time to make Kamza like Tirana, because Kamza is Tirana, we are only 6 kilometers away and Kamza will be a second Tirana,” said Valteri.
