TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/ After a long preparatory work, the construction of the Karavasta Photovoltaic Park, the largest solar park in the region, with a capacity of 140 MGW on an area of 120 hectares, has kicked off.

At the ceremony organized on this occasion which was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and other actors of the sector, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku said that, “this is a marked day, because a very important investment gets underway in Albania in the energy sector.”

“Amid an energetic and economic crisis that has affected the world over, this day takes on greater importance. Albania is a flagship country in the production of renewable energy. We are proud to show at every roundtable that we participate how Albania produces 100% renewable energy, yet this energy covers 70% of the market need.
While the rest is imported and importing energy in 2022 is very costly,” said Balluku.

“Albania needs to invest in energy security not only for our country, but also for the entire region. This investment that starts today is very important for the economy, for the energy system, it is also important for the energy security of the Western Balkans,” stated Balluku.

The minister singled out the French company “Voltalian” as one of the leading energy companies that found Albania enticing to invest not only owing to the geographical conditions, but also the excellent cooperation with the Albanian government

“At a time when the price of energy in the international market has skyrocketed to 350 euros, Albania, through this 100 million euro investment, will have the opportunity in the next 15 years, starting from mid- 2023, when this park will be operational to have 70 MGV available at a price of 24.89 euros”, said Balluku.
