TIRANA, April 30 /ATA/ The co-chair of the special Parliamentary committee for the Administrative-Territorial Reform Arbjan Mazniku stated today that the reform has highlighted a persistent imbalance in regional development.

During a television interview, Mazniku emphasized that this is related to small municipalities that have a disproportionate staff structure in relation to the number of residents, thus increasing the costs of functioning.

“There are the large municipalities that offer the entire range of services and infrastructure, including cleaning and social services and there are the small municipalities that are unable to provide citizens with the necessary services,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, Mazniku emphasized that the small municipalities have a disproportionate amount of staff per 1,000 residents.

Therefore, according to him, it is necessary to think about solving this issue.

He suggested that another option is adopting a two-level local government model with distinct municipal and regional authorities, as implemented in Italy and recently in Greece and Croatia.

“So, in addition to the municipality, let’s have the regions which can perform some functions that the municipality cannot perform”, said Mazniku, while emphasizing that today the citizens get most of the services online. /m.m/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, May 23/ATA/ Leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha said today in a press conference that the small parties took away at least 8 MPs from the opposition.

Berisha said, “The opposition offered a coalition to these forces that were the opposition of the opposition, but they of course refused”.

“Thus, the small parties took away at least 8 MPs from the opposition. These served to deprive the opposition of 8 MPs”, said Berisha.

Focusing again on what he appreciated as an “electoral farce”, Berisha said that, “All the regions are making the balance sheets of the vote-rigging and we will present them publicly”.

Berisha stressed that, “My mission ends the day when Albanians vote freely”.

“I am fighting the battle for Albanians so that they can vote freely, have fair elections. My mission ends the day when Albanians vote freely. This is a battle that will end successfully the day when Albanians vote freely”, said Berisha. /a.f/p.s./

TIRANA, May 31 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku said that, “Small and medium business is the engine of our economy and the main contributor to the development of the country’s vital sectors”.

Present at the “Business 2030” conference that took place at the Palace of Brigades, in Tirana, an activity organized by the Swedish Embassy and the United Nations in Albania, Balluku praised the work of the Swedish ambassador Elsa Håstad to our country, whom she considered one of the people more active to change everything in Albania.

“Today, thanks to Elsa’s work, things have been done that may seem small, but in fact, Elsa has left a trace here in Albania”, said Balluku.

Balluku focused on the role played by international experiences in cooperation with the government, in raising the awareness of small and medium businesses to develop according to the best practices.

“These are the businesses that need our support, as they employee a large part of the population as a workforce; this is an issue that has been put in the focus of government tables. Also, the ability of the countries of the Western Balkans to become attractive and where the focus of our government is to return successful immigrants to our country, offering them a facilitated, transparent and efficient business climate,” said Balluku.

In her speech, Balluku drew attention to the fundamental work that has been done in improving the business climate for the absorption of foreign investments in Albania. Today, she said, we have a new reality in the development of foreign enterprises that are the best promoters of the business climate in Albania.

“Specifically, it is the case of the French Voltalia, which was selected among 14 companies to invest in Albania in the field of renewable energy. Voltalia is the occasion to say and the way we have worked in Albania, transparency and fair competition is indisputable”, stated Balluku.

“It is the duty of the government of Albania to create the right conditions and climate to become attractive for all those Albanians who want to return to their country”, she emphasized./p.s./
