The fifth lot along Kardhiq-Delvinë axis is fully completed while the works continue in the other lots so that to enable the complete completion of this infrastructure work.

The Skërficë tunnel, 1316 m long, is part of Kardhiq-Delvinë axis, with total a length of 33 km, while the road itself consists of 8 lots.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku inspected today the progress of works in this tunnel, traversing the entire length of 1316 meters of the Skërfica tunnel, where from now there will be work on concreting, waterproofing, ventilation, asphalting and all other components that will make this tunnel complete.

“The work has reached up to 65% of the volumes and today we make the crossing for the first time of the Skërfica tunnel with the vehicle”, said Balluku.

Likewise, Balluku stressed that the works that connect the main tunnel with the emergency tunnel, which has a length of 670 meters, have been completed.

Balluku informed that in the emergency tunnel they have to complete the last 100 meters and at the end of 1 week it will be ready.

“We are obliged to have an emergency tunnel that accompanies the main tunnel”, said Balluku.

The minister emphasized that the Kardhiq-Delvinë road is one of the most important axes that we have had under supervision these days.

With a length of 33 km, the Kardhiq-Delvinë road consists of 8 lots. “Lots 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, while in lots 4, 5 and 6 over 93% of the works have been completed. Skërfica tunnel is one of the most important works of this axis, as it connects two regions, that of the coast with Gjirokastra and Tepelena. This road will be one of the important indicators for the promotion of the market economy, especially tourism “, said Balluku.

“We hope to finish all works ahead of schedule, which is August 2022. We have received a promise for June 2022, making it accessible to tourists during the summer holidays,” she added.

Skërficë tunnel on the Kardhiq-Delvinë axis is 1.3 km long, and according to Albanian Road Authority, it is also associated with the emergency tunnel with a length of 670 m, thus fulfilling all safety conditions.

“The work is making progress at a fast pace; the physical realization has reached 50%, the excavation works of the northern portal of the tunnel (entrance) and the southern portal (exit) have been completed”, ARA said.
