TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ Manjola runs a shop of traditional Albanian products at the heart of Gjirokastra bazaar, which is supplied by a network of 60 Gjirokastra families who preserve the tradition of winter staples with passion.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, while sharing this business story, says that the “E dua” store is another success story financially supported by the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development, which contributes to the economic empowerment of the hard-working and skilful ladies of Gjirokastra.

Manjola recalls how she started this business out of passion.

“I still have vivid memories of my grandmother stocking a wide range of staples for winter, so I came up with the idea of opening a traditional staples shop in this museum city. I started it out of passion, but now I am totally committed to it,” she says.

Manjola says, “we stay in touch with over 60 families with whom we cooperate. Other than doing business with me, they supply similar shops in Tirana and beyond as well as showcase their products in fairs abroad. ”

“At this season we are preparing the fig and wild rose jam, which is an iconic dessert and very much in demand by visitors,” she says.

Gjirokastra housewives, who produce traditional products of the area and sell them in the shop “E dua” say that the area of Gjirokastra is famed for special dishes and typical staples that are nicely packaged to be sold in this shop.
Another novelty of “E dua” shop is the restaurant named after it where the foreign tourists have the opportunity to receive cooking lessons in addition to sampling the local food.
