TIRANA, Feb 21 /ATA/ – Nestled on the shores of Lake Shkodra at the foot of Mount Tarabosh, the lakeside village of Shiroka in northern Albania is drawing growing numbers of domestic and foreign visitors each year, combining natural beauty, history and recent infrastructure upgrades.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday shared footage from Shiroka, where residents and tourists enjoyed warm, sunny weather following days of lower temperatures and rainfall.

Recent investments have reshaped the area, including a new access road, a lakeside promenade, the rehabilitation of small beaches and the construction of a boat pier, projects carried out by the government.

Shiroka’s history spans centuries, with archaeological discoveries made in 1959 at a nearby site known as “Ullini i Vetun,” now displayed at the city museum of Shkodra.

Known since the 19th century for its perceived therapeutic qualities, Shiroka quickly became one of the country’s best-known leisure areas.

The destination is noted for its rich flora and fauna, particularly birdlife, with diverse plant and animal species coexisting around the lake.

With its mix of nature, heritage and new investment, Shiroka is increasingly consolidating its position as one of Albania’s most attractive tourist destinations.
