Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj visited the animal shelter in the Tufina area, built according to the European Union standards, for the treatment of stray animals.

He appealed to citizens who go on vacation during the summer months and have nowhere to leave their pets, to send them to the animal shelter, which will take care of them.

“What often happens is that there are people who go away on vacation and let the pets out on the street”, he said.

Veliaj called on everybody who thinks of getting a pet to consider adopting it at the animal shelter.

“It is better to adopt than to buy, because I firmly believe that this culture of adoption helps us to reduce this problem in the city”, clarified the mayor.

The animal shelter is located in the area of ​​Tufina and has a capacity of 400 animals. There are offered several services for their treatment.

At the animal shelter, there are carried out vaccinations and anti-parasitic treatments of the animals. And there is also a quarantine ward for contagious animal diseases, where their condition is monitored until the care team is sure that the animal is in good health and can join other animals. /k.s/p.s./

The four citizens, generally from different districts and found homeless the night before in some of the streets of Tirana, today are in one of the social centers opened by the Municipality of Tirana precisely for people who are in a street situation.
