During an event in Burrel, Balluku said that SHELL is at the end of the exploration phase and that the parameters speak of the largest exploration in Europe, moreover with a quality that had not come to the surface for years.

“We expect good news from the oil sector. For years, we have had 3 contracts with 2 of the largest European companies, with the Dutch SHELL company and the Italian ENI company. The SHELL Company is at the end of the exploration and the parameters speak of the largest exploration of oil in Europe, moreover with a quality that did not come to the surface of the earth for years. Albania does not have oil production capacity in the country to compensate for anything, it doesn’t, as simple as that”.

During a meeting with representatives of the business chambers, Rama said that, “Albania produces heavy oil”.

The prime minister said that Albania is looking to build a new refinery. But, he added, that the main problem remains the oil.

PM Rama expressed his optimism at being successful in this plan. “If we build the refinery and get the right contracts for the proper oil to use, then we can talk about price, competition”, said Rama.

“If next year brings us the news that the oil and gas discovered in Shpirag are commercial, then we will talk about another Albania, another economic power in this region. But, this is still uncertain because the “Shell” company is doing all the tests. Significant amount of oil and gas has been found. The quality of the oil, it is the highest quality worldwide, it is super light oil. The problem is with its commercialization because it is deep and this is exactly what “Shell” is doing now, the tests to see if it can have a sufficient amount to justify the massive investment that can be made”, said Rama.

“We are talking about several billion Euros of investment and then we are talking about some income that with the new contracts that we have made and with what will belong to the state, we will completely change the balance of payments, we will completely change the economic power of Albania. But, this is just a beautiful dream at the moment and we cannot depend on it because we do not have an official final answer that we will start commercializing Albanian oil and gas”, said Rama. /j.p/p.s./
