TIRANA, Oct 15 /ATA/ – Albania has officially joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) earlier this month, a key step under the European Union’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans aimed at reducing costs and improving financial integration with the EU.

The move is expected to bring significant benefits to both households and businesses by making euro transactions faster, cheaper, and more secure.

The EU Delegation in Tirana welcomed Albania’s accession to SEPA in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, calling it a concrete example of how the EU Growth Plan is delivering real economic advantages.

“Albania is now part of the Single Euro Payments Area – a concrete step in the EU Growth Plan that lowers costs and speeds up every transaction,” the statement read. “This means more convenience for Albanian families and businesses, and stronger ties with EU countries.”

In an informational video accompanying the announcement, the EU Delegation explained that Albania could save up to EUR 20 million annually through SEPA by eliminating fees and inefficiencies in cross-border payments.

“SEPA is a system that makes every payment and transfer cheaper, safer, and faster,” the video noted. “Citizens and businesses in Albania can now benefit from rapid euro payments, just like in any EU country.”

SEPA is a payment integration initiative of the European Union, allowing individuals and companies to make euro transfers under the same conditions across 36 participating countries, including non-EU members.
