TIRANA, April 2 /ATA/ Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari, addressed Parliament on Thursday, stating that there is no concrete information indicating an actual threat to Albania’s security. His remarks followed warnings issued by the United States Embassy in Tirana, which cautioned that groups affiliated with Iran could potentially target entities connected to the United States or elements of the Iranian opposition residing in Albania.

Lamallari underscored that security structures were immediately mobilized to verify the situation.

He said: “I wish to draw attention and share certain information with the citizens. First, as recently as last night, I instructed the Police structures—specifically the Counterterrorism units, the Department of Public Security, and the Criminal Police—to maintain communication with the Security Office of the United States Embassy. I can, with full responsibility, confirm that such communication has taken place, and there is no concrete information, nor any intelligence, indicating the existence of a real threat.”

The Minister went on saying that such statements are standard practice and occur in many countries, while the additional security measures in Albania are not directly connected to the recent notifications.

Lamallari stressed that these measures are also taken in response to the broader global context, including tensions and conflicts in the Middle East. He added that units such as Counterterrorism, the Criminal Police, and Special Forces remain on full alert and in continuous communication with international partners.

Lamallari noted that such statements are part of a standard practice observed in many countries facing various concerns. He emphasized that Albania and the State Police have for some time implemented heightened security measures, not in direct response to yesterday’s post, but in light of ongoing international developments. Specifically, he referred to the armed conflict and war in the Middle East, stressing that the State Police, together with the Counterterrorism units, the Criminal Police, the Rapid Intervention Forces (FNSH), and Public Security, are fully engaged and remain in continuous communication with at least two embassies in the country.

Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari assured citizens that Albania remains secure, noting that heightened security measures have been put in place earlier based on State Police assessments of potential terrorism and criminal threats, not in response to a recent embassy post. He emphasized that a comprehensive action plan is in place, assigning specific duties across police structures, and reiterated that Albania continues to be safe for both its citizens and visitors.
