TIRANA, Oct. 15 /ATA/ – The U.S. Embassy in Tirana issued a new security alert on Thursday, warning that demonstrations near Skanderbeg Square and government buildings in the Albanian capital has escalated into violence.

According to the alert, protesters have used incendiary devices, thrown stones and damaged public and private property. The embassy warned that further demonstrations could take place in the coming days.

“Demonstrations in Tirana, starting on Durrës Street near Skanderbeg Square and taking place around government buildings in the area, have escalated into violence,” the notice said.

The embassy warned that protests could spread to nearby streets, leading to an increased police presence, traffic disruption, diversions and road closures. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid all protest areas.

In a separate notice, the embassy reiterated its warning about demonstrations in Tirana, Shkodra, Durrës, Vlorë, Korçë, Kukës and Elbasan, particularly in city centers and near government buildings.

Some gatherings in these cities have involved violence and damage to public and private property, the embassy said.

The alert also warned of further closures or restrictions affecting public services nationwide, including public transport, government offices and schools.

The U.S. Embassy urged American citizens to avoid demonstrations, remain aware of their surroundings and monitor local media for the latest updates.

It also advised them to follow instructions from law enforcement authorities, maintain an emergency plan or alternative exit route away from protest areas, and avoid drawing attention to themselves in public spaces.

“Stay alert and put your personal safety first,” the embassy said
