TIRANA, October 11/ATA/ Albania takes its seat at the UN Human Rights Council.

Prime Minister Edi Rama appreciated today that it means that Albania assumes another international role.

“Albania takes its seat at the UN Human Rights Council. Yesterday, 123 member countries of the UN General Assembly voted in favor of Albania, as one of the 15 member countries of the Council from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026”, emphasized Rama, who also published the names of the 15 new members of the Council.

The 15 new members of the Human Rights Council are: Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burundi, China, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Dominican Republic, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Malawi and the Netherlands.

Albania’s main objective, as a member of the Human Rights Council, will be to work within the Council and the United Nations system to guarantee universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all individuals without discrimination against anyone.

Our country will cooperate closely with other UN member states, representatives of civil society and all partners for the implementation of these commitments.

The Council, which is charged with the responsibility to protect and advance human rights at the global level, consists of 47 member states elected by secret ballot by a majority of the General Assembly members./p.s./
