The Health Care Services Operator announced today that during the period 2024-2025, thanks to the National Program for Vision Care in Children, there were carried out 86,007 vision screenings and 9,815 referrals for further medical follow-up.

The government approved in April 2022 the National Program of Vision Care for Children, a program that guarantees vision care for children, from the newborns to children aged 14.

Through this program, ophthalmic/optometric evaluation is provided based on protocols approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and the preparation of a national registry for vision problems in children.

Through this program, it is intended to catch all children’s vision problems in time, enabling other elements related to rapid correction of the eyes and profound vision problems that lead to blindness at an early stage.

Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu made public today the results following the integration of this program into the country’s schools, highlighting that 9815 students have been referred for a visit to a specialist doctor to follow up on the problems that have arisen.

Minister Koçiu stated that, “During 2024–2025 school year, 86,007 students were included in the National Vision Screening Program in Schools”, wrote Koçiu in a post in the social media.

“Even during this new school year, we will continue to offer regular check-ups and early intervention, with a focus on children’s health”, said Koçiu.

After film screenings in Rome, the winter-long festival Sudestival, will move to Radar Theatre in Monopoli , with events including debates and screenings of some of the best movies that tell the story of Albania.

The festival’s program includes the movie “Annula il decreto” (Revoke the Decree) by Fabrizio Bellomo. A discussion with director Fabiola Ismaili (Aquile di Seta), Edon Qesari, Prof. Claudia Villani (historian, University of Bari, Gramsci Foundation Puglia) will follow after the film screening.

The movie, a satirical comedy about women’s role and societal changes in 1970s Albania, will be screened at Millennium Cinema in Tirana on September 24 with English subtitles as part of TIFF Classics program.

The film’s digital restoration was conducted as part of A Season of Classic Films project, an initiative launched by ACE- Association des Cinematheques Europeennes through the support of the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme.

The release of a newly restored and properly subtitled version of Kapedani as part of A Season of Classic Films aims to introduce this film to international audiences.

The movie was restored by Dabimus srl – a spin-off of Bari’s Aldo More University’s from the original 35mm negatives scanned in 4K by the Central State Film Archive.

Kapedani follows the journey of Sulo, a white-moustached veteran, as he leaves his village for the Albanian capital to voice his grievances about women’s rights. From its opening sequence, audiences are thrust into Sulo’s fervent macho fantasies, where he envisions facing off against Albania’s historical foes, including Nazis and Ottomans, all on a single battlefield.

A staple of Albanian television, Kapedani endures as one of the nation’s cherished comedies, distinguished by its departure from the prevailing stylistic and thematic conventions of its era, particularly during the Hoxha regime.

This satirical film offers commentary on the social complexities of contemporary Albania and the enduring influence of patriarchal traditions.

The 22nd edition of TIFF 2024 is set to take place on 22-28 September. TIFF is the first international film festival and the only of its kind in Albania. This extraordinary cultural event created in 2003 is one of the most important cinematic events in Balkans.

According to her, this girl ruins their relationship. After a heated scene of bickering and fighting their marriage hits rock bottom. She is seeking a divorce. They are separated for a period of time. They both suffer immense emotional upheaval because of this. They realize that separation is just too hard to bear. He makes the effort of reaching out to his wife. They try to make amends, but this is much harder than it seems. At last, they come to grasp the moral of this story. They too will re-discover one another.

The film was welcomed by local public in Gjirokastra. COD said that the movie will be screened in the town of Permet on April 12.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani announced Sunday that Albania has successfully completed the screening process for six clusters in Brussels this week. The screening process marks the first phase of the EU accession negotiations.

According to Foreign Minister, the screening process lasted 14 months, during which 777 presentations, took place with involvement of over 1500 Albanian experts and 1000 European Commission experts.

A total of 300 explanatory and bilateral meetings on reviewing alignment of national legislation with EU acquis have been held since 2022.

“Completion of this process brings Albania closer to the European Union and makes the country more prepared for the next integration phases,” Foreign Minister Hasani said.

Hasani said that opening the first fundamentals cluster.

“Completion of the process provides a fresh impetus for more intense commitment in order to speed up Albania’s EU accession process,” Foreign Minister added.

One of the five short documentaries screened at the Millennium Cinema will be nominated for the European Film Awards.

The “KIDs Program -10” (PANORAMA Competition) section of the 2022 Tirana International Film Festival, or the 20th TIFF, includes 20 animated short films.

The KIDs Program 11+ includes screening of 10 fiction short films.
