The Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu said that 240 physical education teachers will receive training to deliver on the new programme launched by the Ministry of Health.

“Together with Save the Children organization we are working on the national scoliosis screening programme to detect the conditions in schoolchildren. Some 240 physical education teachers will be trained to perform screening exam. Health system certainly will then consider and treat all other elements, but the physical education teachers will be the first to detect the condition in children,” Health Minister said.

The programme will benefit over 240 000 schoolchildren aged 6-14 years old, who will undergo annual scoliosis screening and the test results will be documented on their health records.

The national scoliosis screening programme is part of the School for Health project in collaboration with “Save the Children” organization, with the nine-year schoolchildren expected to undergo relevant procedures for early detection and prevention of the health consequences of this pathology.
