As the beginning of school year is a few days away, the mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj along with Minister of Education Evis Kushi visited the newly-built school which is thrice the size of the previous one destroyed by the earthquake but comparable to educational facilities in the centre.

“Today we are beyond happy. I look forward to turning this investment into a shining example of what can be done with public space when investments are made with passion. It was an informal area, once an agricultural farm, but today it has changed beyond recognition. Tirana has urbanized, the city has reached these limits and the question is: Do we have the opportunity to make investments of high standard and quality in the suburbs just as schools in the centre? The answer is yes! I am delighted about this, “said Veliaj.

The mayor said that now there is no reason to enrol the children in the same schools or continue with two-shift schooling.

“The trend was for students to go to the center. Children travelled long distances daily to go to schools in the centre. That is why some of those schools have worked on two shifts. Today we have the “Murat Toptani” school, which is 3 times the size of the previous one, children do not have to waste time in traffic, when they can save it to play basketball, learn piano or guitar, ”he said.

In her remarks, Minister of Education and Sports, Evis Kushi said that the community needs many services, but school always comes first, because our children are the most important thing in our life.
“We should raise healthy children and educate them as best they can, so that tomorrow they will become competent professionals and decent citizens,” said Kushi.
