Minister Balla wrote in the Facebook that Schäuble has been a great well-wisher of Albania.

“I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Schäuble several times when he was President of the Bundestag and felt his kindness towards our country”, wrote Balla, adding that Dr. Schäuble was a high-calibre politician with a career spanning half a century as an MP, minister and President of the Bundestag.

In the quality of Minister of Interior of West Germany, he signed the German Reunification Treaty in August 1990. Nine days after Germany was formally reunified, he was the target of an assassination attempt during an election campaign, which left him permanently wheelchair-bound, but this did not stop him from pursuing his political commitments to lead the Christian Democratic Union, CDU./p.s./
