TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/- German engineer Sina Kaufmann has stated that with the first two satellites in orbit, Albania will be able to join the European space industry.

In an interview with the Euronews Albania, Kaufmann said yesterday evening that this is only the first step for Albania to carry out more missions for the country and work on more big projects.

“Both of these satellites commissioned by Albania are equipped with cameras that will provide the best imagery of the territory. It will be possible for Albania to record precisely and have its own images of the territory. It is the surveying of the ground terrain that provides valuable insights in the energy, mining and environment sectors,” she explained.

She added that Germany uses satellites for navigation, communication, agriculture, the sector for which it also uses drones.

The Falcon 9 rocket, the joint mission of SpaceX Transporter 6, which also carries the “Albania 1” and “Albania 2” satellites, was launched into space on Tuesday from the station in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The two satellites are launched within the framework of the Satellite service contract in the field of defense and security for surveying through advanced technology of the territory of the Republic of Albania between the National Civil Defense Agency and the Operator “Satellogic USA Inc., worth 6 million dollars.

Based on the contract, the two satellites will be used for a period of 3 years, for the monitoring of the territory of the Republic of Albania, the development of the technical and professional capacities of the Republic of Albania for the use of the satellite service, the processing of Geospatial Information (GIS) and the provision of imagery and other components thereof.

This service will enable the beneficiary institutions to receive satellite images that provide a comprehensive and periodic coverage of the earth’s surface, enabling multiple uses and a wealth of information and geoinformation for decision makers and planners in both the public and private sectors, for effective policies and decision-making.
