TIRANA, April 14 /ATA/ At a time when countries in the Balkan region are competing to attract foreign investment, Albania is rapidly emerging as a premier investment hotspot in Southeast Europe.

Director of the Albanian Investment Development Agency Laura Saro stated today that the diaspora offers a unique blend of capital, expertise and networks that are vital for local development.

At the 4th Diaspora Summit panel on business and innovation, Saro emphasized that the diaspora is essential to Albania’s economic development, acting as a key source of investment, international expertise and strategic partnership across various sectors.

According to her, Albania must diversify its economy beyond the real estate sector, which currently dominates with about 35% of foreign investments.

Albania has great potential to diversify economic sectors, beyond what has dominated so far, such as the real estate sector, where of foreign investments are concentrated.

Our focus is merging modern urban development with free economic zones.

Saro emphasized that Albania has begun to apply successful models, which have been effectively implemented in other countries in the region, such as North Macedonia and Poland.

“Free economic zones create opportunities for different sectors, from industry to technology and innovation, by offering fiscal incentives for investors,” she said, adding that this model is enabling Albania to advance dynamically.

Tourism is another sector with great potential for development.

“The diaspora can serve as a bridge to bring international brands to Albania and take tourism to a new qualitative level,” Saro said.

In addition to tourism, energy and agriculture are two strategic sectors for Albania.

Saro said that Albania has a natural advantage in the energy sector thanks to its water resources, ranking among the countries with high potential in Europe. She also emphasized that investments in smart agriculture, through technology and cooperation with startups, can bring a profound transformation to the Albanian agricultural sector.

Saro emphasized that Albania’s goal is to create integrated ecosystems, where different sectors interact and cooperate to provide an attractive offer to investors.

“This step strengthens Albania’s regional competitiveness and leverages our diaspora for sustainable growth”, she said. /j.p/p.s./
