TIRANA, Feb 6 /ATA/ – An urban requalification project on the esplanade next to the coast is in full swing in Saranda, a popular coastal town in southern Albania and one of the main tourist destinations on the Albanian Riviera.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday visited the impressive construction site of the new Saranda promenade, which, according to the government head, will welcome many visitors after being totally transformed, with the beach newly rehabilitated along a 1.1 km-long and open seaside promenade.

The Premier said that the coastal town has taken a complete new look thanks to this investment and the promenade will become a public multifunctional space, serving both local residents and holidaymakers during the summer season.

Saranda Mayor Ardian Gurma said that the coastal tourist town is being visited by international tourists mainly from Norway, Sweden, Ukraine and Serbia.

Mayor Guma also announced that a project funded by the World Bank will rehabilitate Saranda port pier to allow for the anchorage of cruisers.

The project also envisages the restoration of the facades along their entire length in order to improve the aesthetics.

The promenade will mainly feature elements that preserve the town’s identity, such as the entrance gate of Onhezm, sculptures made by local artists, the fountain square, existing trees and green areas, outdoor pool, etc.

Saranda, nestled peacefully in a wide gulf in Ionian Sea, is considered one of the most beautiful places on the Albanian Riviera and one of the most attractive destinations. Defined as the “White City”, it is surrounded by hills and located opposite the Greek island of Corfu.
