TIRANA, April 28 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday that the new salaries are a direct result of the increase in income thanks to economic growth.

Rama shared the example of the primary 9-year school principal Ilda Nako, whose salary in May 2023 will be 83,000 ALL and in 2024 will be 128,400 ALL.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the new salaries, thanks to which the average salary in Albania almost doubles, reaching the historic high of 900 euros in 2024.

“This is the fruit of a great effort, perseverance and great patience for difficult reforms and necessary measures for the economy and for our finances, increased income thanks to the growth of the economy, trade, public and private investments, increase in production and exports, modernization of the tax collection system through the computer-based real time transaction processing”, said Rama.

Likewise, the Prime Minister emphasized that this is the result of facilitating the increase in the speed of business services thanks to their digitization, the strengthening of the state as a whole and the significant reduction of corruption in taxes and customs.

But above all, he said, “the new salaries are the fruit of our joint work, of every Albanian man and woman, who, in the state or in the private sector, contributes to the Albanian economy.”

The Albanian government is undertaking a major reform in the salary system, with the aim of increasing the well-being of every citizen, as well as the remuneration of professionals based on their contribution over the years. The reform will be implemented in two steps to be completed within one year. The average salary at the end of the full implementation of the salary reform will go to 900 euros from 530 euros today.
