TIRANA, Jan 30 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Tuesday that, within a few months, teachers’ salaries will average out to 950 euros.

In his remarks at the launch of the National Program for Professional Development of Teachers, Rama said that, “a war is heating up without weapons, which is very aggressive for human capital. The most developed countries, which today are facing the unstoppable phenomenon of aging and which are the engine of Europe, have invested and are investing and will invest year to year and as much as they can to get human capital from others.

Of course, Rama added, “their attractive power for our human capital and the human capital of countries like ours remains very challenging for all of us. Their offer is much stronger and more overwhelming than ours, but we cannot but react in a non-traditional way to protect as much as we can our human capital and to improve as much as we can the quality of our human capital here in our country. Otherwise, in a near future, we can risk facing an impossible situation.”

“Albania has reached a whole new level today. Albania today has another open door for its future in economic terms, and the significant salary increase, which will continue,” said Rama.

“While today we can put our potential, the potential of our country, at the disposal of the economy and Albanian families much more than yesterday, but to unleash this potential all we need is human capital, qualified people. There is a big need for manpower at all levels. And definitely this is not a moment when there is only one solution, this is a moment that requires many solutions, in all directions, not only in education, but the focus on education is vital, because fortunately we are no longer in a situation like not many years ago when teachers were completely abandoned and completely unprotected”, said Rama.

PM said that, “the teachers’ salaries will soon, within a few months, average out to 950 euros, but it is not enough. Therefore we need to reform the system. For example, the mechanism of that salary increase every five years as a result of the seniority, needs to be reformed. On the other hand, we must make it possible and find a way that, in addition to the uniform salary, i.e. the basic guarantee for everyone, there are different salary levels according to merit, according to contribution and according to qualifications.
