TIRANA, May 21 /ATA/ Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, informed the MPs today that the municipal hospital of Lushnjë has been included in the national investment programme for hospital infrastructure. She underlined that services for citizens continue without interruption during the course of the reconstruction works.

During the questions and answers session requested by Member of Parliament Saimir Korreshi, the Minister made clear that the investment in Lushnjë hospital got underway in 2026. Minister Sala stated that citizens need to be told the truth, not political fabrications that raise the alarm, adding that there are MPs who, upon seeing a single construction scaffold, hurry to proclaim a national catastrophe.

The Municipal Hospital of Lushnjë serves more than 63,000 residents and operates within buildings constructed prior to the 1990s, which for decades have suffered significant infrastructural and technical deterioration. This is not a difficulty that has arisen today; rather, it is a longstanding legacy which, for many years, failed to receive the necessary investment,” she stated.

For this reason, Minister Sala explained, the hospital of Lushnjë has been incorporated into the national programme of investment in hospital infrastructure, financed through the State Budget and the Albanian Development Fund. She noted that the investment commenced in 2026, with the official start of works on 4 March. The allocation planned for the current year amounts to approximately 82 million lek, while for 2027 a further 236 million lek funding has been earmarked.”

“The intervention is being undertaken in Building No. 3 of the hospital, which formerly accommodated the emergency department, imaging services, surgery, intensive care, and pathology. Concurrently, works are being carried out in the facilities associated with the maternity unit and the supporting services, with the purpose of improving conditions for mothers, newborns, and patients as a whole,” Minister Sala continued.

Minister Sala stressed that the project is not a superficial or cosmetic investment, but a full infrastructural reconstruction. It covers hospital premises, technical networks, hygiene and sanitary standards, safety improvements, and the modernisation of diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Minister Sala highlighted that in the first quarter of 2026, the hospital carried out 14,076 outpatient consultations — around 24% of the total for 2025 — maintaining nearly the same activity level as the previous year. She added that 39,739 laboratory, radiological, and endoscopic examinations were performed, representing over 25% of the 2025 annual total, reflecting a rising demand for diagnostic services.

Minister Sala also addressed the information requested concerning the oxygen network in hospitals, noting that in September 2025 maintenance was carried out on the network and distribution panel, while in February 2026 the inspection and servicing of fire‑protection systems in the technical facilities was completed. With regard to pharmaceuticals, she affirmed that the Lushnjë hospital has managed the situation in real time and that patients have received the necessary treatment.

She specified that the supply of medicines is secured through effective contracts and framework agreements, and that for the period 2026–2028 a further expansion of contracts for hospital pharmaceuticals has been planned.
