Mayor of Durrës Emiriana Sako said that today the keys to the new apartments were given to the residents of the Kastrati building, in municipal unit no. 5.

Sako emphasized that in this way the reconstruction process for the affected families is successfully completed.

“This is a big step forward that we have taken together. We feel proud of the great work we have done and I thank the citizens for their trust and patience. May you enjoy them and stay healthy and full of joy in your new homes”, said Sako.

The mayor of Durrës said that in this way it is finally finalized a long and difficult work, which took five years and seven months since the 2019 earthquake.

“For us, it is a special emotion that you receive the apartment, but we have borne the great burden of work and the weight of the process for which a special law has been made since the earthquake struck. I thank the donors, the Albanian Government and the prime minister. It has been a difficult period for us as a municipality, while Kastrati Group gave a donation of 3,000 square meters,” said Sako.

According to Sako, there may have been families who remained dissatisfied and lack of agreement on the choice of floor, but in the end, the process for handing over the keys to the new apartments was finalized through the lottery.

“After the keys, we will continue working on the technical part. Today, when you go to your homes, there is installed the electricity, there is connected the water supply, while the families will renew contract with the electricity utility, etc. We will take the time necessary to furnish the homes for each of you”, concluded Sako./e.i//r.e/j.p/p.s./

Mayor Sako said that this is good news for the local residents of Sukth that comes just a few hours before the end of this year, while the construction site for the beginning of works will be ready to open in January.

“In January, the construction site will be ready for the beginning of works on this educational facility that is so important for the community of students, parents and teachers. While five educational buildings in Sukth municipal unit have been completed, this will be the sixth building that will finalize investments in education for the schools damaged by the earthquake in this municipal unit,” wrote Sako in a post in the social media. /p.s./

Mayor of Durrës Emiriana Sako inspected today the works in this school in context of the EU4Schools program, implemented by UNDP and financed by the EU.

“We are in the middle of the reconstruction process; there will be installed the heating and cooling systems while the electrical systems will be done from scratch. Of the 38 schools in the municipality of Durrës, 22 are with the EU4Schools program, but there are also schools financed by other donors. We have done an extraordinary job in the city of Durrës; this is a job that we could not have done only in a 4-year period”.

This school will offer European standards for 130 students, teaching staff and 25 kindergarten children. It will have modern conditions with 9 classrooms, 2 laboratories, doctor’s and psychologist’s room, 1 library, a resource class for students as well as a basketball court and a tartan running track.

The “Riza Shera” school was built in 2003, but after the damage from the earthquake, it underwent a reconstruction process and an addition in its rear part.

The gym will be built with metal construction and covered from above. A playground will also be built that will serve kindergarten children, and there will also be an elevator for children with disabilities./k.s/r.e/p.s./

The municipality of Durrës has a twinning agreement with Zadar.

During the meeting with Mayor Branko Dukić, Sako talked about the continuation of cooperation in areas of common interest, such as tourism, culture or urban development, based on the similarities between the two cities.

Attending the meeting were the ambassador of Albania to Croatia Riza Poda, the MP of Albanian origin in the Croatian Parliament Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj, the Honorary Consul of Albania in Zadar Anton Dedaj, Head of the Chamber of Commerce of Zadar Denis Ikić, Director of Tourism Iva Bencun, Director of Planning and Infrastructure Darko Kasap, Director of EU funds administration Stefani Mikulec Perković.

“During the discussions with the Croatian side, I presented the city of Durrës with all its touristic and economic potential, as well as focused on the main strategic investments or even the main initiatives in the field of sports, culture and youth”, wrote Sako in the social media.

“Also, we shared our experiences related to implementation of EU projects as well as establishing a partnership with the Municipality of Zadar to apply for new calls in the latest EU funding programs”, she added.

In a post in social media, Sako wrote that, “During the meeting, I gave to the Israeli friends a detailed presentation of the very rich cultural and historical heritage of our city, as well as the extraordinary tourist and economic potential of Durrës”.

Mayor Sako acquainted the Israeli businessmen with the major projects which are being implemented and which are giving a new boost to the city’s development.

“We also talked about the great opportunities offered by Durrës to invest in the tourism sector given that Durrës is the main tourist destination of our country”, said Sako.

Mayor of Durrës Emiriana Sako inspected today the works for the reconstruction of the “Jusuf Hoti” high school in the administrative unit of Katundi Ri, which is financed by Denmark and the United Kingdom through the CIS program implemented by the UNDP.

Sako emphasized that in addition to this school, which is part of the Reconstruction program in Katundi Ri, there are also two schools that were built with the municipality’s budget. “There are a total of 7 schools in this administrative unit,” she said.

Sako also inspected the construction of the new educational building where the “Jusuf Hoti” kindergarten and elementary school will be located, financed by the budget of the municipality of Durrës.

The school will have 10 classrooms, 3 laboratories, multifunctional hall, library, nurse’s and psychologist’s room.

While the new educational building will have 7 classrooms, two for kindergarten and 5 for primary school, nursing room and other facilities.

At the end of the works in these educational buildings, 330 students and 40 children will attend the teaching process in premises with contemporary standards.

Sako also emphasized that the municipality is committed to rehabilitating the sports grounds in every administrative unit. /m.m/p.s./
