TIRANA, 20 July /ATA/- The Church of Saint Friday – built in 1776 – was declared a Cultural Monument of the first category in 1963 and is located in the Protected Area of the Historical Center of Përmet, a city and municipality in Gjirokastra County, southern Albania.

The church is of the basilica type and about 22 meters in length, 16 meters in width and 8 meters in height.

The inscription engraved on a stone slab tells about the construction of the church in 1776, by the master craftsman Ilia Kristo.

The fresco with scenes from the scriptures was painted by Terpo Zografi in 1808.

In 1964, the Church of St. Friday was flooded by the stream that runs nearby.

Water mixed with mud burst the south-west door of the narthex and flooded the nave to a height of 3 meters, causing extensive damage to the church’s wall painting.

Water drainage works began in 1967. The narthex and nave were then restored. The murals of the church were also restored in 1981-1982.

The National Institute of Cultural Heritage informed that ” in the light of the project on the restoration of the Church of St. Friday, interventions in the structure have been proposed as follows: Roof intervention; Bricklaying; Floor; Doors and windows; Paint; External systems. //a.i/
