TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/ – Small sailboats and schooners have resumed their one-day or longer adventure trips to explore the island of Sazan and Karaburun peninsula at the start of the new tourist season in the coastal city of Vlora, southern Albania.

Vlora Port Director Admir Malaj told Albanian Telegraphic Agency on Tuesday that “small tourist groups have embarked on small sailing ships in April and early May to explore stunning nature beauties and wonderful landscape of the area.”

“Tour operators setting out from the port of Vlora to attractive destinations like Karaburun and Sazan island this summer season will increase number of ships to cope with a very high tourist influx this yea,” Malaj said.

Malaj said that “four schooners operate currently in the area, while 14 sailboats, licensed to conduct such trips, will become available this summer.”

The Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park is the only of its kind in Albania. Located in the Vlora area, the park is home to an outstanding wilderness and natural values that are essential for promoting a sustainable tourism development model. The marine park has become a very popular tourist destination in the last few years.

With an area of 12,428 hectares and 1.9 km stretch, the park includes numerous landmarks such as Sazani Island, beautiful sites like Shen Vasili bay, Shen Jani Bay, and Grama Bay, and Haxhi Alia Cave, one of the largest caves in Albania.

In the meantime, there is thriving marine life underwater and divers can enjoy exploring the underwater world. Karaburun-Sazan Marine National Park encompasses a rich ecosystem of Posidonia Oceanica meadows, a seagrass species that is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea.

The area is also inhabited or visited by species such as sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, various types of fish, and the monk seal.
