TIRANA, Oct. 14 /ATA/ – The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has issued a security alert over violent protests in the Albanian capital, warning American citizens that unrest could expand near government buildings.

In its notice, the embassy said a protest on Durrës Street, near Skanderbeg Square, had turned violent after stones were thrown.

The protest may expand to nearby blocks and government buildings, potentially causing enhanced police presence, traffic disruptions, detours, and road closures, the Embassy warned.

“Embassy Tirana personnel have been advised to avoid demonstrations,” the Embassy added in its statement.

The Embassy urged American citizens to exercise caution, prioritise their personal safety and monitor local media and guidance from local authorities for the latest information.

Its recommendations include avoiding demonstrations, remaining aware of their surroundings, limiting distractions while moving through public areas, and maintaining an emergency plan or an exit strategy.

The diplomatic mission also advised U.S. citizens to keep low profile amid the unrest.

TIRANA, July 2 /ATA/ – The U.S. Embassy in Tirana on Thursday issued a security alert advising American citizens to avoid ongoing protest areas in the Albanian capital and remain alert as demonstrations continue.

In a notice published on its website, the embassy said protests are taking place along the “Martyrs of the Nation” Boulevard, between Skanderbeg Square and Mother Teresa Square, near the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Embassy warned that additional demonstrations could occur in the coming days in Tirana and elsewhere in Albania.

While noting that protests often begin peacefully, the Embassy said situations can change rapidly and demonstrations may spread to surrounding areas, including other government buildings.

It also cautioned that increased police presence, road closures, traffic diversions and transportation disruptions should be expected before and during protest activities.

The Embassy advised U.S. citizens to avoid demonstrations, remain aware of their surroundings, monitor local media and follow instructions from local authorities. It also recommended maintaining a personal safety plan, limiting distractions in public and keeping a low profile.
