The government head stated in a televised interview that “the opposition DP has been financed illegally by funds channelled through sources with no interest of whatsoever in our country’s democratization and welfare.”

“The truth is that we have publicly denounced this issue, but we have been publicly ridiculed precisely by individuals and people dealing with political analysis, who should have taken the investigation forward instead,” he said.

“This is a process that was launched as a result of the statements and denunciation some of us publicly made based on foreign public information,” PM Rama said, adding that justice bodies have offered no transparency over the case.

“This is about an illegal Russian funding for the political parties. We have no information over alleged Russian interference in the Albanian politics. This is the only information and the Democratic Party is the only political party to be financed in a way that connects Albania with Russia. Everyone knew about this funding, but it was denied by everyone,” he added.
