TIRANA, Sept 29 /ATA/ Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku held a meeting today with Anton Hofreiter, chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on European Union Affairs, focusing on Albania’s European Union integration process.

In a social media post, Tabaku said that Germany has concerns regarding the rule of law, environmental protection and compliance with the standards of the “Fundamentals” cluster.

According to her, Albania faces a clear choice: a country moving towards the European Union, or one moving away from it and European values.

“Integration is not propaganda. It means a rule-of-law state where justice is not hindered by the strength of parliamentary votes, and where lawmaking does not become a rubber stamp for the interests of a minority,” she said.

Tabaku further stressed that “if we are behind Montenegro today and still unprepared, this is the result of a government that has no will to implement either the spirit or the letter of EU laws.”

According to her, amendments to the law on protected areas, the issue of Vlora Airport, and the political protection allegedly being provided to the former deputy prime minister are concrete evidence of this lack of political will.

“Our fight is for a European Albania in terms of its laws, institutions and standards,” she said.
