TIRANA, Nov 28 /ATA/ – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, responded on Friday to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Independence Day greeting, saying the two countries stand together in defence of shared democratic values.

In a post on X, Spiropali said the United States has “always been by our side in the most critical moments of our history.”

“Our founding fathers, to whom we owe today our freedom and independence, knew that in the decisive hours of our nation, America was standing by our side. We do not, and will not, forget that in the most critical hours of our history – in affirming Albania’s right to exist and in the Independence of Kosovo – the American people played a decisive role,” Spiropali wrote.

“In those moments, the distance between our two countries disappeared, and our destinies became irreversibly intertwined,” she noted.

“This friendship today unites us at the altar of the values we share. Our nations are bound by a deep belief in freedom, democracy, peace, security, and human dignity,” Foreign Minister added.

“We deeply appreciate the United States’ support for Albania’s role in NATO, our joint efforts to strengthen law-enforcement cooperation, and our close collaboration in countering cyber threats and defending our common security,” she said.

“As we celebrate our Independence Day, we do so with gratitude in our hearts and with a clear resolve: to further deepen our strategic cooperation, to expand our economic ties, and to strengthen even more the enduring, unshakable friendship between our peoples,” Foreign Minister Spiropali stated as she thanked Secretary Rubio for his warm congratulations and for the steadfast, loyal partnership between Albania and the United States.

TIRANA, Nov 28 /ATA/ – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday extended Independence Day congratulations to the people of Albania.

“On behalf of the United States of America, I want to congratulate the people of Albania as you celebrate your Independence Day. The United States and Albania enjoy a strong partnership, built on a shared commitment to a safer, more prosperous future,” Rubio said in his message.

“Our alliance in NATO is the bedrock of our mutual defense, and we welcome Albania’s increased investment in our collective security,” U.S. Secretary of State added.

Rubio also highlighted bilateral cooperation in law enforcement, saying “our partnership with Albanian law enforcement makes our citizens safer as we confront the threats posed by transnational criminal groups, drug-trafficking cartels, and those who collaborate with them. We also appreciate our close cooperation.”

“Additionally in addressing cyber threats, and we commend Albania on its significant strides in cybersecurity,” he went on saying.

“As we mark this special day, we look forward to expanding our security cooperation, economic ties, and enduring friendship with Albania.” – Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the occasion of Albania’s Independence Day,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concluded his message.

Albanians at home and abroad celebrate today the 113th anniversary of the country’s declaration of independence. On 28 November 1912, the National Assembly in Vlora, led by Ismail Qemali, proclaimed Albania’s independence – a landmark act fulfilling centuries-long aspirations for freedom and statehood.

From the raising of Skanderbeg’s flag in Kruja on 28 November 1443 to the signing of the 1912 Act of Independence, the date remains a symbol of national identity, unity and resilience.
