Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced today that 70% of the works in the second phase have already been completed.

According to her, the railway underpass and vehicular overpass have been completed, while carriageway formation is progressing rapidly.

“Eighty percent of the road layout has been excavated, and work is ongoing on the pavement structure, with the bituminous base and binder layers already applied,” Balluku emphasized.

This road, which will connect the Port of Durrës with the Qafë Thanë Border Crossing, continuing onward to North Macedonia and Bulgaria, is part of Corridor VIII. The highway will be a Category B road, featuring four traffic lanes and allowing a maximum speed of 110 km/h.

The project entails lane widths of 3.75 meters each, with a 1.8-meter landscaped median, as well as shoulders along the riverbank side.

The road will benefit the regions of Elbasan and Korçë by promoting tourism and significantly reducing travel time.

Corridor VIII is part of the European transport corridors, and another component of the project is the construction of the railway line, a project on which the Albanian Government has made significant progress.
