TIRANA, Aug 9 /ATA/ The ancient city of Butrint has been featured in the prestigious magazine “Archeo.”

Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, announced on Wednesday that the issue of August 2023 has dedicated a “special feature” to Butrint, as one of the most important stops of Aeneas’ journey, a route certified by the Council of Europe which includes various cultural heritage sites related to the mythical hero.

Butrint National Park is one of the most important sites of cultural tourism in the south of the country, attracting local and foreign visitors all year round.

The park encompasses 15 hectares and is located at an altitude of 30-50 meters above sea level. It is located in the southeastern corner of the Ksamil peninsula. It has a fairly protected natural position, watered on two sides by the lake of Butrint and on one side by the canal of Vivar.

Butrint National Park is home to a significant number of archaeological sites and is considered a “microcosm of Albanian history.”

Butrint is a microcosm of Mediterranean history, featuring the rise and fall of the great empires that have dominated the region. Today it is an amalgam of monuments that represent a space stretching over 2000 years, from the Hellenic temples of the c. IV BC to the Ottoman forts of the beginning of the century. XIX.
