Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu highlighted the data of the 2023 progress report for Albania, where it reads that our country has made progress in increasing the access of the Roma and Egyptian community to basic health services, including the services of reproductive health.

“There has been progress in terms of social inclusion. The number of employees from this community in the administration has increased, and access to education has increased, especially in pre-university education, thanks to scholarships and the financing of books or transportation in rural areas,” said the minister.

She underlined that economic empowerment and employment are a condition to advance in the fight against marginalization and discrimination of the Roma and Egyptian community.

Koçiu stated that through the Employment Fund, all Roma and Egyptian job-seekers have received employment and mediation services from regional employment offices and have been registered at professional training centers.

Under the motto “No one should be left behind”, the minister announced the implementation of a program to strengthen the digital knowledge of young people.

“Increasing digital knowledge will absolutely give us the opportunity to create more access to the labor market,” she continued.

Also, Koçiu mentioned the parallel programs in the field of health that contribute to narrowing the gap in access to services. “Universal Health Coverage for all, immunization and screening programs have directly targeted the Roma and Egyptian communities”, she emphasized.
