TIRANA, Jan 3 /ATA/ – Heavy precipitation in Albania’s northern Shkodra region has caused a road collapse on the Ura e Shtrejtë-Prekal stretch at a site known as “Shkallë Logje,” prompting authorities to close the section and install warning signs to prevent accidents.

The Shkodra Prefecture said on Saturday that work is under way to assess the damage and restore traffic.

Snowploughs worked throughout the night to keep the Qafë Thore–Theth road open, a key access route to the mountainous tourist area.

In the municipality of Malësi e Madhe, three snowploughs are operating along the Tamarë–Vermosh road, where icy conditions have been reported. Crews are salting and maintaining the roadway to ensure continued traffic flow.

In Vau i Dejës municipality, rainfall has eased, though temporary power outages were reported in several administrative units. Repair teams are on site.

In Fushë-Arrëz, heavy rain continues, causing rock and soil falls on rural roads. Authorities said all routes remain passable and traffic is moving normally.

In Pukë, rain and strong winds persist, but no disruptions have been reported so far.

In Lezhë, about 85 mm of rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours. Drainage channels, embankments and the Shkodra Reservoir dam remain unaffected, while water levels in the Buna, Drin, Kir and Gjadër rivers, as well as the Shkodra Reservoir, are below flood-risk thresholds.

Pumping stations in Velipojë (Vilun and Ças) are fully operational and on standby to operate at full capacity if required.

TIRANA, September 2 /ATA/ Investments in road infrastructure have significantly shortened travel distances between cities as well as improved road safety.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media images of some of these investments, starting from Llogara tunnel, Arbri Road, Korça-Erseka road, Tirana ring-road, Thumana-Kashar highway, etc.

“New national roads, a bunch of Albanian infrastructure that has shortened travel distances,” the prime minister wrote in the caption to the views.

In mid-March of the current year, there were completed the works on construction of the 3.78-kilometer Murriz Tunnel. The opening of Murriz Tunnel also made accessible the entire Arbri Road, one of the most important national roads of Albania. With a length of about 74 km, Arbri Road is an important East-West connecting corridor.

In May 2025, Llogara tunnel was opened to traffic, an important work that shortens the distance to the southern coast and serves the tourist season.

In June 2024, the new Thumana-Kashar highway, part of the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, was opened to traffic. With a length of 21 km and a traffic speed of 130 km/h, this category “A” highway has significantly facilitated the movement of vehicles.

Considered the largest infrastructure project in the capital, Tirana ring-road, with a length of 28.7 kilometers, which connects the capital with all national exit roads, was opened to traffic on December 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, Korça-Erseka national road, with a length of 45 kilometers, cuts the travel distance between the two cities by 35 kilometers. /m.m/r.e//a.f/p.s./

TIRANA, August 7/ATA/ The National Inspectorate for Protection of Territory of Korça, in cooperation with the Albanian Road Authority, has set up working groups to identify businesses that have illegally occupied public spaces along roads.

The regional Director of Korça Inspectorate Edi Bitri said in a statement to the media that, “From the monitoring so far on the ground, there have been identified around 370 businesses that have illegally occupied public spaces, endangering road and national safety”.

According to him, this mainly concerns residential fences, fuel tables, as well as various businesses that deal with services or dismantled vehicles, which have occupied parts of the roads.

“All businesses have been warned to take measures for the voluntary dismantling of structures that have occupied the spaces. There has been noticed a growing awareness by citizens and businesses to respect the law. According to government directives, they have been given a deadline until July 31 to carry out voluntary dismantling,” said Bitri.

He added that businesses have been given a deadline according to government directives to vacate these occupied spaces.

Since the beginning of August, inspection teams have resumed monitoring to verify whether the dismantling process has started.

“In cases where there has been no voluntarily action, the Inspectorate will proceed with penalties, including fines and forced demolition of illegal buildings or structures,” said Bitri.

Director of Korça Inspectorate informed that no administrative measures have been imposed so far, as the teams are still on the ground monitoring the situation. /k.s/r.e/p.s./

TIRANA, July 31/ATA/- Today is the deadline for all businesses located near national roads to relocate and clear up from the public space they have occupied because it has become a risk to road safety.

After this deadline, there are foreseen penalties for all the businesses that have refused to implement this decision for the voluntary removal of any kind of building located less than 20 m away from the national road.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku emphasized that road safety is a priority.

“The businesses should vacate the areas near the national roads which pose a risk to road safety”, she appealed.

According to her, this is a fundamental reform in terms of legality in the territory of the Republic of Albania.

“It is spread everywhere, starting from the tents located within the residential areas of cities or from the parking lots that have been built in the area that belongs to all the residents of a building and going all the way to the parts of the national roads extending from north to south”, stated deputy prime minister, adding that this reform will be concluded, clearing up every centimeter of public space.

She added that the Albanian government is more committed than ever to the reform.

“All our troops are on the ground. We are looking for the cooperation of citizens; we see many indications from their messages which in most cases turn out to be accurate and fair. Therefore, we urge the citizens to continue and denounce any case of violation of public spaces or even road safety”, underlined Deputy Prime Minister Balluku. /p.s./
