TIRANA, Jan 8 /ATA/ The new Leskovik-Ersekë road cuts the travel time in half, from 3 hours to just 1.5 hours.

The European Union Delegation in Tirana emphasized on Wednesday that this road, funded by the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, helps boost tourism in the southeastern region of Albania.

“This road, which previously took residents here 3 hours to reach Leskovik, has now been shortened to 1.5 hours. This saving of 1.5 hours makes it much easier to connect and bring these villages closer to the rest of Albania,” said Hubert Perr, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation.

During a meeting with Erseka mayor, Erion Isai, they discussed how the road impacts the daily lives of local residents, as well as its influence on tourism and business.

Local businessman Leonard Konica said, “The reconstruction of the new Leskovik-Ersekë road has had a very positive impact on increasing tourism traffic, especially for the people living in this region.”

This road shortens travel distances and serves as an additional gateway for the development of tourism in our country.

The road stretches 42.67 kilometers, with the original asphalt width being approximately 4 meters, while the new asphalt measures 5 meters in width along its entire length.

The reconstruction of the Ersekë-Leskovik road is intended to enhance regional connectivity and ease access to the tourism potential of the Korça and Gjirokastër areas, thereby broadening the region’s tourism offerings and boosting opportunities for sustainable economic development.
