TIRANA, Feb 23 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated on Monday that Prime Minister Edi Rama traveled by helicopter to Korça as the southeastern roads became unpassable due to subsidence and landslides.

Berisha asserted that this incident laid bare the government’s failure to build road infrastructure up to the standards and its detachment from the everyday realities faced by citizens.

The road experienced further landslides today following bypass works and the commissioning of a secondary road, which damaged the works carried out rendering the segment currently impassable.

For safety reasons, the contractor’s fleet and construction equipment have been withdrawn from the site, and both vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the affected carriageway has been suspended.
State authorities will undertake an urgent geotechnical and engineering reassessment, as the roadway alignment lies on unstable ground conditions that present significant challenges for further stabilization and intervention.
The National Civil Protection Agency urges citizens to follow only the official announcements issued by the authorities for any updates regarding the situation.
