TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ At the “Mother Teresa” international airport, work is in full swing to extend the terminal, refurbish the runway and increase the number of aircraft parking areas.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social media pictures of the works being carried out at the “Mother Teresa” international airport, in Rinas, where investments continue apace in several directions.

Rama said that this is a crucial intervention which significantly expands the airport’s capacity to keep pace with the increased flow of passengers.

“The data predict that 2024 will be an even more successful year than last year, so we will do everything to avoid any delay in the processing of passengers,” Prime Minister said.

The investment keeps pace with the significant increase in the number of passengers and flights. The data of the first months of this year predict that the year 2024 will see an even greater number of passengers arrive in Albania as compared to last year.

As for the runway, its extension will enable accommodation of long-haul flights. The entire investment is set to be completed by the summer of next year. Also, the construction of the access road creates facilities in air traffic management.

The first quarter, last year recorded 92 flights per day at Rinas airport, while in 2024 there will be 147 flights, a figure that shows the great increase in the influx of passengers./m.m/sm/
