Everything begins with the passion that Altin Prenga – a well known Albanian chef from Lezha – has for the Albanian agriculture and domestic products and the rice planting experiment according to him will be successful.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Frida Krifca posted on social media images showing rice-growing farm in Zadrima saying Albania has a tradition of rice farming.

“I curiously joined Altin in rice harvesting, once tradition in Albania,” Krifca said.

The Agriculture Minister inspected first-hand this agricultural enterprise accompanied by professor Filip Haxhari, the head of the leading rice institute in Italy, who is leading a rice-farming project in the area of Zadrime over the past four years.

“At the meeting, also attended by Lezhe Mayor, Shkodra agricultural directorate team, staff of the genetic seed bank, as well as a team of Tirana Agricultural University students, he provided an outline on the latest results of the research on adaptability of this culture and the experimented varieties that have turned out to be successful thanks to the climatic conditions, the know-how and the right technology, efficiently used to grow this agricultural culture,” Krifca said.

Shkoder and Lezha regions were the largest rice growers for Albanian domestic market before 1990s.
