TIRANA, June 14/ATA/ The representatives of the Counseling Line for Women and Girls in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana, the Coordination Center against Extremism of Violent and Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) gathered in a Forum to discuss the successes and challenges of the work for the rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees from conflict areas in Albania.

Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj assured that the Municipality of Tirana is committed to providing direct assistance to women and children who have returned from conflict areas.

“I am glad that the municipality of Tirana is engaged in providing direct assistance to women and children who have returned from conflict areas. When it comes to housing, it is very easy to say that we saved them, but then we have to think about what they eat, where they sleep, where they go to school, where they are educated”, said Veliaj.

In addition to direct assistance for housing and food, the Municipality of Tirana pays special attention to providing psychological assistance to the returnees from the war zone.

“I am glad that the Municipality is involved in providing psychological and psychiatric assistance to the returnees. The trauma was great when they went to those conflicts, but also the return to Europe and the return to a Tirana that is crowded with people, where everyone is running for a career and for success and does not care much about the neighbor in need, this is a function that we will have to do it together “, underlined Veliaj.

He added that Tirana is the city of opportunities for everyone who will start a new life, and asked for cooperation of the community to alleviate these wounds.

Veliaj said that the municipality of Tirana remains committed to support through its programs their economic empowerment.

In this regard, the municipality of Tirana will provide financial support not only for the victims, but also for the education of children coming from areas in conflict, by offering special courses.

Meanwhile, Veliaj thanked the religious communities for their contribution to theological education. “I want to thank all the leaders of the religious communities, because I see that we have put a great emphasis on theological education. I find it very useful that part of this platform is also theological education “, he concluded./m.m/r.e/p.s./
