TIRANA, July 16 /ATA/ – Protecting Albania’s cultural heritage requires continuous commitment, cooperation and public awareness, experts said as part of an initiative aimed at combating the illegal trafficking of cultural assets.

In a video produced under the project “Building Local Capacities and Cooperation in Implementing the Law to Combat Illegal Trafficking of Albanian Cultural Heritage,” Fulbright specialist Kat Slocum stressed that safeguarding cultural sites is not only the responsibility of state institutions but also of local communities and citizens.

Slocum highlighted archaeological parks such as Apollonia, Byllis and Antigonea as irreplaceable historical and cultural assets that require ongoing protection and care. She said raising public awareness and reporting violations were essential steps to preserve these sites for future generations.

“Protecting sites such as Apollonia is important. Illegal excavations, theft and the removal of objects from archaeological sites cause irreversible losses to cultural heritage. We must protect these places so they remain available for future generations,” Slocum said.

The initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of State and Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, aims to strengthen local capacities and cooperation in enforcing legislation against the illegal trafficking of cultural heritage.

The project is implemented by Cultural Heritage without Borders – Albania (CHwB Albania).

TIRANA, May 7 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama reiterated Tuesday that the ruling Socialist Party will refrain from commenting any cases currently under investigation by the Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution Structure (SPAK).

Addressing a meeting with the Socialist parliamentary group and cabinet members, focusing on some of the most pressing issues the country faces today, with a special focus on governance, law, corruption, and a visionary new National Initiative for Albania 2030, aimed at shaping the country’s long-term development strategy, PM Rama said that citizens rightly ask for more results from all this endeavor and rightly feel contempt for this scum that emerges from the very manholes already opened by justice.”

“However, the responsibility before law is individual and accountability to the law is institutional. Therefore, it is absolutely clear that whoever violates the law should face justice,” PM Rama stated.

TIRANA, Dec 30 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated at a traditional year-end press conference on Saturday that the Prime Minister is definitely responsible for the governance, whereas criminal responsibility for any wrongdoing is totally individual for everyone.

“The responsibility cannot be shared when it comes to individuals who commit abuse of office behind the others’ back and seek to reap benefits by taking advantage of the power they enjoy thanks to their office. The Prime Minister’s responsibility is the indisputable responsibility to deliver on all the government objectives and targets. The individual undeclared goals are secret, heinous ones and everyone should be strictly held accountable individually,” he said.

Rama stated that he and the government he heads are accountable for the way they react towards cases of law violation and towards the violation of the principle of joint work.

The government head said he was most interested to see that nothing that violates the law and the public interest goes unpunished.
