TIRANA, Aug 14/ATA/ Albania is a destination far from mass tourism. It attracts lovers of unspoiled landscapes and heritage, according to a reportage published by France 3.

Albania is one of the smallest countries in Europe. With its still unspoiled sites, it appeals to nature lovers and travelers curious about discoveries. On the banks of a river, Berat is said to be the city of a thousand windows. A nickname which is an allusion to the stacking of Ottoman houses in white stone. “The view is fantastic, it’s really grandiose. These mountains, these houses with all these windows,” commented a tourist.

The historic center can be explored on foot

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historic center can be explored on foot. The cobbled streets, alternately Byzantine, Serbian and Ottoman, reveal the city, step by step. Berat offers a plunge into the past, for example, an old Pasha house, a title of nobility under the Ottoman Empire, today has been transformed into a hotel-restaurant. “What tourists appreciate about this hotel is above all the history and the original architecture we have been able to preserve,” said an official.
