TIRANA, Nov 12 /ATA/Albania will present its environmental protection blueprint with special focus on renewable energy sources at the UN Climate Change Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, and the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, through a video message on social media from Baku, Azerbaijan, announced that during the panels focused on climate change, Albania will present its blueprint om biodiversity and energy.

ë.

In her message, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku emphasizes the strategy adopted by the Albanian government for diversifying renewable energy sources.

“Albania will deliver a presentation at all the panels where renewable energy will be discussed, showcasing its best example. Based on a national strategy, Albania has started diversifying its renewable energy sources, transitioning from hydro to solar and wind energy. This entire experience will be shared at panels organized by states or donors, such as the World Bank, etc.,” emphasizes Balluku.

She concludes her message by emphasizing that Albania’s presence at this forum is aimed at offering the best solutions in terms of the environment and energy.

In her message, the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, stated that Albania is not a country that pollutes the environment, as 100% of its energy production relies on renewable sources.

“Greetings from Baku, at COP 29, where our delegation, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, has arrived today to present and participate in the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Change.”

“Albania is not a country that pollutes; it is 100% powered by renewable energy, but it can offer an example with its small-scale model for biodiversity and energy,” emphasizes Kumbaro.

At the end of her speech, Kumbaro also mentioned the attention the government has given to the Vjosa River National Park. “Don’t forget about Vjosa, the national park of the last untamed river in Europe, a smallscale model, but the only one,” said Kumbaro.

Dozens of world leaders will address the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) being held in Azerbaijan, setting the tone for the two-week negotiations. A key expectation from COP29 is the agreement on a new, fair, and ambitious Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate financing.

The fourteen initiatives proposed by the COP29 Presidency include integrating climate action with sustainable development goals, developing green energy corridors, creating solutions for green energy storage, advancing clean hydrogen, reducing methane from organic waste, and promoting green digital action.

These initiatives aim to generate climate finance, which is crucial for achieving the global warming target of 1.5°C and ensuring a unified global response to climate change.
